Where is Museo della Marineria on Porto Canale?

Museo della Marineria stands on the quay beside the oldest stretch of Porto Canale Leonardesco, at Via Armellini 18, 47042 Cesenatico. The canal-side location puts the boats in the setting they were built to work in, with the museum’s land and floating sections close together.

The museum is on a pedestrian street. If you are arriving by car, nearby parking at Piazza della Rocca is recommended; the railway station is about 200 metres away. The surrounding canal district is also part of Cesenatico’s city centre, and a practical guide to Cesenatico city centre can help you plan a wider walk through the neighbourhood.

What can you see in the maritime collection?

What can you see in the maritime collection?

The land section presents traditional maritime life on the upper and middle Adriatic and opened in 2005. Its displays connect the working lives of local seafarers and fishers with the craft of building and sailing their boats.

At the centre are a trabaccolo and a bragozzo fitted with traditional lug sails. Material on seafaring tools, fishing methods and boatbuilding adds context to these vessels and the skills behind them. The result is a collection focused not only on boats, but also on how maritime work shaped life along this part of the Adriatic.

One ticket covers the Museo della Marineria, Antiquarium and Casa Moretti. Admission is €2–€5 for a full ticket, €1–€3 reduced, and €1 for juniors and students; a family package for 2 adults and minors costs €10.

No reservation is needed for a regular visit; you can go to the ticket office during opening hours. Special openings can be arranged for schools and groups.

What is the floating section, and can you board the boats?

What is the floating section, and can you board the boats?

The floating section is a line-up of historic boats moored along the canal, including bragozzi, trabaccoli, lance, paranze, topi and battane. The vessels date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and you can view them freely by walking along the quay.

The boats generally cannot be boarded. A summer exception may allow visitors to board the trabaccolo Giovanni Pascoli when accompanied by a museum operator. Two boats remain operational and take part in historic regattas during summer, but only crew members may board them.
